Scientists working in environmental and marine research often strive to make their work relevant beyond academia, yet many are hesitant to engage in advocacy. This presentation examines the authors experience as a researcher supporting the community-led campaign against seismic testing in Southwest Victoria. It explores the important role researchers can have in amplifying community voices, fostering collaboration between diverse stakeholders—including environmental groups, Traditional Owners, and commercial fishers—and strengthening grassroots action. By working alongside communities, researchers can help protect Sea Country while ensuring their expertise contributes meaningfully to real world issues.
