Ellen Ditria

Ellen Ditria is a Senior Program Officer in the Blue Carbon and International Partnerships section at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). Part of her role includes leading five domestic projects delivering environmental-economic accounts for coastal blue carbon restoration initiatives across Australia. Her work focuses projects applying the United Nations System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) framework at the project level to measure and value the physical and monetary benefits of ecosystem restoration for local communities, to support evidence-based decision-making and investment in nature-based solutions. Prior to her current role, Ellen was a PhD candidate at Griffith University, where her research centred on the application of machine and deep learning techniques for automated data analysis in marine conservation. Her candidature is ongoing and contributes to advancing the use of artificial intelligence in monitoring fish abundance and ecosystem services, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of ecological assessments. Ellen's expertise lies at the intersection of ecology, technology, and environmental policy, with a strong commitment to integrating scientific innovation into practical conservation efforts.
